Author’s Roundtable: Riana Lucas

How long have you been writing? Has writing always been something you wanted to do?

We have been writing for about a year and a half now. No, we actually didn’t even read much until about four years ago.

What books or stories have you written? Published? Can you tell us a little about your books? What are they about?

Right now we are working on the fourth book in “The Deadly Flowers” series. All three of the other books are self-published on Kindle. The first three books in the series follow a young warrior Fae by the name of Poppy as she struggles with her hatred of humans and halflings (half human, half fae). She evades capture, befriends a halfling, rescues her friends from the enemy, finds out her true identity that has been hidden her entire life, prepares for battle and much more. The books are full of action, adventure, a little bit of romance, and a lot of twist and turns.

How did you get inspiration for the characters?

The idea was a very small one at first that one of us came up with. We talked about it, and the story just grew from there.

Are the books based on personal experiences?

No, not at all. They are 100 percent our imagination. 🙂

Is there any advice you have been given that you could give to a young up-and-coming writer?

Never give up. If it’s your dream, follow it.

How do you find enough time in the day to write?

We are both actually stay-at-home moms as well, so even though we still have to find time, it’s not quite as hard as it may be for others.

Do you set aside a special time to write?

Nope. Whenever inspiration hits, it’s time to write.

Do you think writing has any benefits, and if so what would they be?

Of course I do. It’s something I love, so doing it makes me happy. Happiness is very important.

Do you like to read? If so, what are your favorite genres and why?

We love to read about as much as we love writing. YA is our favorite. It is more relaxing, and usually an easy and entertaining read. We do venture into all genres though.

Can you talk about how important reviews are to writers? What kinds of information do reviews offer authors like yourself? Have you ever received a bad review? If so how did it make you feel?

We feel like reviews are one of the most important aspects of writing. They provide feedback that is key to knowing if you are doing the right thing or not. We haven’t had a bad review yet, but it will come. We will be just as happy for that as we are for the good ones. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and when it comes to our books, we want to know what everyone thinks.

About Riana Lucas

Riana Lucas is actually a duo of writers, who are best friends and go by the names Nichole and Angela in the real world. Realizing that gobbling books like hungry caterpillars and then discussing them for hours at a time wasn’t fulfilling enough, the team decided to write their first book together. “The Deadly Flowers” series was born out of a kernel of an idea and has grown into a three-book series – so far. The two have realized their true calling in life and plan to make a career out of writing books with strong characters who evoke true emotion.
